Tooth Extractions

What are Tooth Extractions?

Extractions are typically done when there is no other way to save a tooth or if the tooth in question is causing a problem. Extractions involve complete removal of one or more teeth, leaving a space in the area. Extractions are done safely and can be beneficial when it comes to improving oral health. They can be performed on patients of all ages and needs.

Why would you need Tooth Extractions?

You may need a tooth extraction if the tooth is bothering you or if it can no longer be saved using other methods. A lot of people choose to have extractions when they are having issues with one or more teeth. Some teeth serve no purpose, like wisdom teeth, so it is important to have them removed as soon as feasibly possible. The procedure is safely done and can be quick depending on the amount of teeth needing to be extracted.

What makes you a candidate for Tooth Extractions?

Before you can come in and have an extraction done, we will need to perform an exam. Certain extractions, especially impacted wisdom teeth, require a CT scan prior to the surgery being performed. We will consult with you on which teeth should be removed and what to expect. You’ll be given aftercare instructions that promote quick and easy healing of the surgical site.

What can you expect with a Tooth Extraction?

You will receive anesthetic or sedation of your choosing when having this procedure done. Next, our doctor will use tools to remove the tooth out of its socket. The area may be sutured to keep it closed and promote quicker healing. We’ll give you a piece of gauze to bite down on and you’ll be instructed to remove it after about an hour. You’ll need to follow our aftercare instructions so that the area heals properly. If there are any post-op complications, contact us immediately so that we can get you in.
